Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine
The extent to which the individual meets the requirements specified in the qualification. Credit Transfer (CT) applies where credit is granted for the successful completion of unit(s) undertaken at a Registered Training Organisation (unless licensing or regulatory requirements prevent this). The unit(s) must be the same or deemed equivalent in order for credit transfer to apply.
RPL fees are equivalent to the standard tuition fees for each of the unit(s) for which RPL is sought.
If you believe you are eligible to apply for RPL or CT, please complete the self assessment tool and email it to rto.admin@monashcollege.edu.au
Frequently asked questions
- When are the classes?
This course offers a comprehensive learning experience that combines face-to-face skills development with live online tutorials, workshops and self-paced learning. Students attend two days on campus with half a day delivered online. Part of the on campus experience is the weekly mentor- role model sessions. Please see the timetable for your specific class times.
- .Do I need any prior skills to complete the course?
No prior skills are required to complete this course however, to ensure the success of our students we conduct language, literacy and numeracy testing as part of the application process. Whilst evidence of year 12, vocational education and/or higher education completion will assist in demonstrating your academic suitability for the course, the test will help identify if there any supports and adjustments we should put in place. To apply for an exemption from the test you will need to provide evidence of completion of a qualification at a higher level than the course you are applying for, which also has equivalent or higher requirements for language, literacy and numeracy.
- Do the assessments have a due date?
Yes. Each course includes assessments that need to be completed by a given due date. These dates are provided well in advance to help you self-manage your learning.
- What if I cannot submit my assessment by the due date?
Your trainer is there to help. Contact them directly and they will help support your learning progress.
- What if I do not pass the assessment?
You get three attempts at every assessment. Your trainer will provide you with feedback and an opportunity to resubmit your assessment.
- What format are the assessments in?
This course requires both knowledge and practical evidence to be awarded the qualification.
Assessments may take the following formats:
- Written answer questions
- Reports
- Portfolio of evidence based on simulated or workplace scenarios (e.g. project work, research assignments etc.)
- Role plays
Your trainer will be able to clarify specific assessment questions you may have during your course.

To help you understand the context of the skills you are learning, bringing your own projects and workplace documents can sometimes help to assist in this process. If you do not have any relevant documents, your trainer will be able to provide equivalent materials to support your learning.
- Can I apply for direct credit transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
Credit Transfer will be awarded where a student has successfully completed one or more units in the qualification. You will need to provide a Statement of Attainment that lists the unit or units that you have completed as evidence.
The RPL process is an in-depth process where you provide evidence to demonstrate your skills and knowledge for each unit of competency for the course. This process is aided by a comprehensive tool in which you locate and provide evidence of your levels of capability in the performance criteria of the course. This is then reviewed by a qualified trainer and assessor to ensure this meets the requirements for your unit.
