Capgemini Australia
Intersectional inclusion, powered by people
In a global consulting and technology firm it can be easy to feel like a number. At Capgemini Australia, employees have built something different, a workplace where intersectional inclusion is designed and led from the inside.
The company has created nine employee Communities that operate in a hub and spoke model, with an Intersectional Community at the centre. These Communities bring together people from different genders, cultures, sexualities, abilities and backgrounds to shape the inclusion agenda. Instead of a top down program, there is a living network that surfaces issues, tests ideas and drives change, with leadership support and resourcing behind it.
A standout initiative is the Relaunch program, a three month pathway back into the workforce for people who have taken a career break. More than twenty six people have completed the program and the retention rate sits at ninety six percent. For participants it means a structured transition, real work, coaching and a supportive cohort. For the wider workforce, it sends a message that careers can be non linear, and that taking time out does not mean opting out of growth.
Education is another pillar. Inclusive leadership training is provided for managers, with a focus on bias, psychological safety and practical tools. There are targeted learning offerings such as Confidently Going for Promotion and education on unconscious bias in hiring. These programs help employees navigate their own careers and equip leaders to open doors rather than unconsciously closing them.
Recruitment and progression have been redesigned with equity in mind. Job ads are written in gender neutral language, selection processes look beyond traditional profiles and tailored pathways have been developed for trans and gender diverse people, First Nations candidates and neurodiverse talent. Policies back this up, with gender affirmation leave available to employees and a framework for fair pay, performance and promotion decisions.
Externally, Capgemini has been recognised as an AWEI LGBTQ Inclusion Platinum Employer for four consecutive years and has received multiple Employer of the Year awards. Internally, gender representation has risen across the workforce, with particularly strong gains in senior leadership roles.
For someone working at Capgemini, intersectional inclusion is not just a tagline, it is a daily experience of being seen and supported in all the identities you hold. You can build a career in technology and consulting, in a place where Communities have power, where career breaks are not deal breakers and where being different is understood as a strength.
