What’s Working:

Roadmaps in Gender Equity

As the sun rose over Geelong’s sparkling bay, a group of changemakers gathered for the Roadmaps: Best Practices in Gender Equity Breakfast—an event proudly supported by the City of Greater Geelong, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Committee for Geelong.

It was the perfect setting to shine a light on what’s working—and what still needs work—when it comes to gender equity. The room buzzed with energy, ideas, and courageous stories from individuals and companies recognised through the Gender Equity Awards.

We heard from inspiring individual award winners like Robyn Verral, who bravely shared a shocking personal experience. Years ago, she was groped repeatedly in a hospital surgical setting, and like many women, felt powerless to act. Until she didn’t. One day she snapped and reported it—sparking change. Today, Robyn continues to challenge the status quo from her position on numerous boards.

Ren Zhang, host of the podcast Have You Eaten?, offered a quiet but powerful message: visibility matters. Her goal? To be a voice for other migrant women who may not feel they belong. Her story is a beautiful reminder that equity includes culture and language, not just gender.
