How Bite-Sized Learning Can Enhance Inclusion at Work
Written by Victoria Buchanan, BDM Data Drives Insight
There’s a common belief that to achieve greater gender equity and inclusion in the workplace, women must work harder than men and invest more time in their professional development. While this notion highlights the unfairness of gender inequity, what if women didn’t need to work harder to excel? By working with teams and leaders in Australia we’ve found that dedicating just 20 minutes a day, once a week, to learning, can significantly boost productivity and performance.
The Power of Bite-Sized Learning
Research from Harvard Business suggests that short, focused training sessions over an extended period help individuals stay engaged and retain information more effectively. At Data Drives Insight, we incorporate this bite-sized learning approach into our micro-learning modules within our Team Performance Programme. This method breaks down new information into small, manageable chunks, allowing individuals to absorb and retain knowledge more effectively. By focusing on concise and targeted content, learners can quickly apply new insights to their daily tasks, leading to immediate improvements in performance.
Data Drives Insight’s Approach
Our Team Performance Programme is designed to cultivate high-performance teams by enhancing psychological safety and inclusivity. We provide targeted micro-learnings that empower individuals to enact meaningful change and support positive behavioural shifts, including increased productivity. Our solutions, grounded in neuroscience, are tailored to the unique needs of each team. By offering accessible online diagnostic tools and feedback, we help organisations foster high-performance environments.
This continuous cycle of learning not only improves individual performance but also drives overall team success.
“The micro-learnings were quick and easy to use. Simple but thought provoking, and helped me reflect and challenge my current habits, and how I might adapt to get even better outcomes with my team. It would be great to see even more people here accessing them.”

Enhancing Team Performance
From my experience as a Business Development Manager at Data Drives Insight, when a team collectively engages in bite-sized learning, the impact is amplified. Each member brings new skills and perspectives to the table, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Over time, these small learning sessions contribute to significant advancements in team dynamics and productivity.
Getting Started with Bite-Sized Learning to Boost Performance
Leverage Technology: Online learning tools, like those offered by Data Drives Insight, allow you to learn in ways that suit your schedule. Utilise resources that fit seamlessly into your routine, so learning feels natural and not forced.
Integrate Learning with Work: According to Harvard Business, integrating learning with work is crucial for making new insights stick. Apply new concepts on the job, experiment, and test the applicability of new skills to ensure learning translates into action.
Reflect on Learning Experiences: Take time to consider the concepts learned and how they relate to your work. Reflection is key to transforming learning into actionable insights.
Engage in Conversational Learning: Discuss your learning experiences with colleagues, bosses, and team members. Sharing insights and learning from others’ experiences enriches the learning process.
Break Down Learning into Smaller Steps: Instead of tackling large, comprehensive training programmes, focus on smaller learning tasks that fit into busy schedules.
Commit to Long-Term Learning: Recognise that learning is an ongoing journey, not a one-time event. View training and learning as a continuous investment in your future.
