A New Breed of Developer Shaping the Future of Luxury Property Design

A unique property developer in Sydney is shaping the future of residential property development and design by launching prestigious, fully furnished homes, with a focus on sustainability and ethical sourcing, both inside and out.

Interior designer and property developer Charlie Puchala of Charlies Interiors says it was a trip to
Northern India that initially sparked the seed of an idea for her unique business model.

“After the birth of my first child in 2007 I had a real awakening and wanted to live more in tune with the environment and adopt a ‘whole life cycle’ approach to my business and life.

“But it was a trip to Northern India, where I immersed myself in manufacturing, visiting cottage industry manufacturers and artisans in small villages, that I came back to Australia with the idea of designing, developing and furnishing considered luxury family homes incorporating sustainable materials and design, and ethically sourced furniture and homewares,” says Charlie.

Charlie has so far designed, developed and furnished two luxury residential homes in Sydney and plans to build and sell an additional 15, fully furnished residential properties by 2025 and take the business model interstate.

Charlie’s interest in sustainability was first piqued in 2007 after the birth of her first child, Zach, followed by her daughter Zahra’s birth in 2009. With a deep desire for them to grow up with an understanding about nature and where food came from, Charlie purchased her first lifestyle property Attunga Retreat in Berry, NSW.

It was while working on this project, that the idea of creating a design company was born, and she founded Charlie’s Interiors in 2009. Driven by the vision of conscious product manufacturing, and supporting artisans and craft makers globally, Charlie frequently travels overseas to ensure that her products are sourced and produced in an ethical, sustainable manner.

Charlie is also a founder and partner in construction company Puch Construction & Building Pty Ltd. She also designs and manufactures the ZA Collective Fashion and Interiors collections, available at her commerce site Shop Charlies Interiors, manages her interiors boutique in Maroubra, as well as two stunning country properties, which operate as Air BnBs – her original Attunga Retreat in Berry, and Attunga KV in Kangaroo Valley.
